From Margy Lott:

Sunday night, Feb 6,  Jimmy, Katie and Luca Rigguiero were t-boned at an intersection by someone running a red light.  The major impact was on Luca's side and when he first came to hospital, they weren't sure he was going to make it.  He underwent major brain surgery that night.  He has had a great deal of swelling on his brain from the accident, which has been of great concern to the doctors.  On Saturday night one of his lungs collapsed and his vitals dropped.
He needs prayer for healing,  for the brain swelling to go down,
and healing of pneumonia (from the lung collapsing).

Here is the update I received from his father last night - we are all so thankful for all the support EVERYONE has passed on to the family with their prayers and thoughts.

Jimmy's update on Luca for Feb 7:

The brain swelling in Luca’s left side of the brain has subsided, which means they were able to see more black spots (a very positive sign).  The swelling around the brain stem has also reduced,  also a VERY positive thing.  Pending any secondary injuries, the doctors said Luca will LIVE and we should be talking about his rehabilitation process.  As to what extent his brain injuries are, we don’t know, but the doctors said the injured areas are significantly affected - meaning that we will only know with time what they are in detail.  He is breathing on his own, which is very encouraging.

The doctors are talking about months of rehabilitation and are saying he will be at CHEO for a year.  We do not know his ability to speak,  see,  walk,  etc.  at the moment.  He will remember and do everything with the parts of his brain which are healthy.  The damaged areas of his brain cannot be healed, so he will adapt and use other areas.
